Winter Wind
February 13, 2025
I have lived in snow country for decades. Outdoor activities always made it tolerable. I remember the enormous Boston blizzard of 1978, closing schools and businesses. I recall our neighbor Reggie sharing a huge pot of spaghetti sauce that fed at least three families because it was melting in her no-longer-freezing freezer.
I can still picture then Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis on TV in his V-neck cardigan, calming his constituents, looking like he was one of us.
These days, I don’t like snow so much. I walk like the old lady I am for fear of slipping on hidden ice. And somehow the wind feels even fiercer this year.
It seems like a long time ‘til spring.
I hear you. I am 70 going on 80. I also live in snow country. I remember several blizzards here where we could not get out of our door for the gigantic dump of snow outside. One October ---October 10th I recall, the leaves were still on the trees. But Mother Nature didn't care. She dumped 6 feet of snow that day and a half on our county. Trees could be heard all over town and in the forest busting in half by the weight. A mess was left. But as a kid, we relished those days. Sleigh riding, snow forts, jumping off roofs into drifts---ah, yes. Those were the days. No devices back then, no sir--ee! As for now, I bought myself a pair of attachable cleats to put over my snow boots. No more roof jumping, but I can still talk to Mother Nature! Have a blessed day everyone!

I live in a city with a lot of steep hills.
Since buying a pair of clip-on cleats I'm much more confident walking on icy footpaths.
