A Community Torn Apart

When Peter and I moved to Riverview in 2018, we were thrilled to be living in a mid-century building overlooking the Charles River in Cambridge, MA.  We had been told by the real estate agent, that there is a real sense of community among the residents, and the real estate agent was right.

Weekly cookouts in the garden in nice weather, Halloween and Christmas events, all contributed to that feeling.  Of course, Covid put a damper on all indoor gatherings, but still…

And now, as we all are forced to vacate, stress and sadness prevail.  Faces encountered in the hall reflect the strain from having to be suddenly uprooted from our settled lives.

Things happen while you make other plans…

Yes, you are quite right about things changing when you think you are going to do this and that. We were coming home from a doctor's visit and were rear-ended. Fortunately no one was hurt but the damage to our car was quite extensive. Still waiting for the insurance people to tell me whether it can be repaired or if they are going to say the cost of the repairs are more than the car is worth.

At least we weren't hurt. And the beat goes on. One day at a time, one day at a time. Must think positive. I read recently we should start each day by saying aloud these eight words. "Today is going to be a good day!"

Have a great day.

What happened? Why are you having to move? Have you found another place? So sorry you are having to go through this..

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
I feel sure you have you decided what to do next, whether its settling into a nearby rental or something entirely new and different which you would not have considered if this challenge hadn't made it necessary.

So sorry this is happening to you!
Being uprooted when it is not your choice is incredibly hard.
Take care of yourself.

I'm glad the problem with the building had been discovered before something tragic had occurred. However, I am sad that the place you had learned to call home, and that had come to feel like home, will no longer be home for you and the other residents. I know you have mentioned that you have found a place to relocate and I hope the others have also. Still, being forced to leave did not give any of you much of a chance to explore your options. And things are much more expensive than 2018. Thinking of ALL of you!!
