Re-inventing our Lives

I'm Taking a Break

For almost eleven years, I have blogged twice a week at “70-something.com” and (now) “80-something.com”. My goal was to process the decade of my seventies and to be authentic in documenting the challenges and joys of my life. In a way, it was a shared journal. Much to my delight, many of you responded, telling me that my blog posts resonated with you, and my audience grew.

As the decade ended, I published the book 70-Something: Love, Life and Limits in the Bonus Years, a compilation by subject of my (and your) favorites. www.bit.ly/70-something

Of late, I have been thinking that I want to write only on occasion. During the past year, I have faced some challenges that took more out of me than I admitted, even to myself. Now, Peter and I are facing some medical issues (not surprising in our decade) that will require more attention.

But I am not closing down my site, so you haven’t heard the last from me.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you. I wish you all the best, and I encourage you to document your life, wherever you are in it.

Judy...thank you for all the wisdom you have shared weekly over the years. Your past year has sounded exhausting and added to health issues and producing a bi-weekly column, you are wise to take some downtime. We all will look forward to hearing from you now and then, as your time and inclination allows.

I certainly hear you and completely understand, but will miss reading . I'm a fairly new follower but your posts always sound so real.

I pray health and healing for you and yours and look forward to the 'occasional' post.

Grace & Peace, Iris

Adding my good wishes as a long time reader. I can't remember when I started, but I was not yet 70 and now I'm 74. Your columns have been helpful, insightful and mostly enjoyable. Sometimes life is not enjoyable. Thanks for your dedication and we will look forward to seeing your thoughts whenever you can post them.

I'm relieved that you are not closing down your blog! I'll look forward to hearing from you from time to time—meanwhile, concentrate on your health and well-being. Thank you for the inspiration you have given us in previous years!

I'm so glad you are not closing down your blog altogether, but can understand the need to ease off. I've read every blog post and always find them interesting and just the right length. I began just after publishing my book 'Spitied Ageing' and was looking for others who were ageing with spirit. At 76 I've so much appreciated having someone who has gone ahead, showing me the way into this unknown territory of ageing. You have done this with wit and courage and I wish you well.

I have learned a lot from you, Judy, and am very grateful you have shared so much about yourself. Being in my late seventies, I've been dealing with many of the same issues and feel less alone hearing about your life. Thank you. I look forward to learning more when you are in a place to write again.

Sending many nurturing wishes during this difficult time.

Good for you. We octogenarians need a break now and then. And this health issues have to come first. I like your (+80 title modifier) I did that with my blog a while back.....October Years, and November too. There is no putting the calendar on hold.

My best to you and Peter.

Linda

I have been reading your blog for about a year and a half. I will turn 70 in two weeks. I love the mixture of friendliness and wisdom in your writing. I have chosen your book for my December book club group. Thank you for the insight and encouragement you have given me.
